Dear Civil Society Representatives,
Hate crimes and hate motivated incidents are one of the issues the
Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) is working
on through various programmes and activities.
In order to explore challenges, good practices and the relationship
between on-line hate and hate crimes, ODIHR is organising a meeting on
Challenges of combating hate crimes motivated by hate on the Internet.
The meeting will be held in Warsaw on Monday, 22 March 2010, on the
occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial
Discrimination observed on 21 March.
The main objective of this meeting is to identify current challenges and
examples of successful approaches addressing hate on the internet from
the view of practitioners.
The meeting will focus on the following three areas:
- Legal framework and practical challenges in combating Internet
inspired hate crimes;
- Analysis of successful examples of prosecuting hate crimes related to
hate on the Internet;
- Sharing of best practices, approaches and methods in addressing the
phenomenon.
ODIHR encourages the participation of non-governmental organisations at
this meeting, given the indispensable role of NGOs in addressing the
phenomenon of hate on the Internet and hate crimes.
If you are interested to participate at this meeting, please fill in the
on-line registration form available in English at:
http://tandis.odihr.pl/
and in Russian at:
http://tandis.odihr.pl/?p=home&id=0&l=ru
and submit it to us no later than 22 February 2010.
The organisational modalities, annotated agenda and other related
documents are also available in both languages
at the given website. The meeting will be held in English, with
simultaneous Russian interpretation.
