Open call for an information and promotional campaign for the 2007
European Year of Equal Opportunities for All  

The European Commission has launched an open call for an information and
promotion campaign (VT/2006/013) for the 2007 European Year of Equal
Opportunities for All � Towards a Just Society.

The information campaign will run across all EU Member States, Bulgaria
and Romania and EFTA countries. It will build on and complement the work
of the Community Action Programme and current �For Diversity. Against
Discrimination� information campaign.

The aim is to reach out to the general public, as well as groups that
shape non-discrimination policies or support those who face
discrimination. The campaign will promote the value of diversity, while
challenging stereotypes and perceptions that vary across European
countries. It will also highlight the wide range of activities that will
take place during the Year, notably at national level, and also EU-wide.

The final date for requesting or accessing relevant documents is 25
August 2006. The deadline for receiving bids is 8 September 2006.

Evaluation recognises success of Action Programme 

Ernst and Young have published its main conclusions of its evaluation of
the Community Action Programme to Combat Discrimination. Available
online now as a �synthesis report� in English and French, it notes the
support the Action Programme has given to Member States:

The report hails the �legal, political and social impact� of the
programme and records �notable advances� in the awareness and capacity
of key players since its launch in 2001. The Community Action Programme
finishes at the end of 2006, and will be succeeded by the new PROGRESS
programme next year. 


Diversity photos make TV debut

MTV, the world�s largest youth channel, broadcast a new diversity ad in
June and early July. The message of the upbeat 30-second spot is
�Diversity means different things to different people�.

The ad features the word �diversity� in different fonts and languages
over photos showing diversity in everyday life. Among the images are
three winners of the diversity photo competition, which were selected by
voters from among 1600 entries earlier this year.

The photo competition and ad campaign were organised by MTV, together
with the �For Diversity. Against discrimination� information campaign.

Last chance to enter poster competition 

The Breaking Stereotypes competition challenges art and design students
to create a poster promoting diversity to a young audience across the
EU. Individuals or teams of up to three students have until 31 July to
submit their entries:

An international jury panel of young artists, designers and experts in
design and communication will select the best posters. Contributions
will be judged according to their creativity and originality of
expression, clarity of presentation, as well as universal appeal.
Winners will claim prizes of up to � 5000.


ENAR highlights burden of proof in racial equality cases 

The European Network Against Racism has released a new report on the
shift of the burden of proof in racial equality cases. This principle is
enshrined in the EU Racial Equality Directive of June 2000.

The report seeks to support NGOs with strategies on how to use the EU
Directive to maximum effect.
