"Multinational Georgia" Upholds President's Initiative
In its letter addressed to the President "Multinational Georgia"
expressed satisfaction regarding the declaration by the president on 21
March of "Nowruz Bairam" as the National Holiday of Georgia.
Organization has also pointed out to some other problems as well as
challenges ethnic minority communities are facing in Georgia and asked
the President to undertake appropriate measures for their solution.
"Multinational Georgia" has asked the President to promote initiatives
on introducing of amendments to the legislation of Georgia regulating
combating with the hate speech and actions (amendments to the Criminal
Code of Georgia) as well as approximation of the Georgian legislation to
the European standards in the field of ethnic minority rights protection
with special emphasis on implementation of the Council of Europe
Framework Convention on National Minorities. Moreover, PMMG has referred
to the President to assist in the adoption of the "Law on the Protection
of Rights of the Persons Belonging to the National
Minorities".
