Finno-Ugric conference ends with Estonian protest 

On Sunday morning the President of Estonia, Toomas Hendrik Ilves, and
the Estonian delegation, left in protest the 5th session of the
Finno-Ugric World Congress held in Khanty Mansi, Russia. Mr Ilves walked
out of the session as the chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs
of the Russian State Duma, Konstantin Kosachev,  attacked Estonia in his
speech.

EBLUL to hold PfD 2008 in Gdansk, Poland 

EBLUL will hold PfD 2008, the Partnership for Diversity, in Gdansk,
Poland from 11th to 13th September. This year’s forum topic will be
‘Language Policy and the Regions in Europe’.

French national assembly to renew language amendment call 

The Committee on Legislation of the French National Assembly,
challenging the Senate, has reintroduced the amendment that regional
languages be recognised in the constitution, on Wednesday, said the
Breton MP Marc Le Fur (UMP).

Web campaigns boost 

The possibility of seeing the letters '.cym', '.bzh' and '.gal' on
Welsh, Breton and Galician websites has been discussed recently in a
conference organised by ICANN - the international body that regulates
the world wide web.

Meet the French, strong supporters of regional languages 

Unity or diversity may be the question facing the French institutions,
but according to an opinion poll published on Sunday in the newspaper
Ouest France the French people want unity in diversity. The survey shows
an overwhelming majority (68%) are for the recognition of “regional”
languages in the Constitution.
