DO EXTREMISTS LURK EVERYWHERE?
When the law on extremism was being debated years ago, human rights
activists voiced their concern that a broad interpretation of the
vaguely worded law may be used to go after critics of Kremlin policies.
It now seems that those fears were not unfounded. Another loosely worded
law opposed by human rights activists and other defenders of free speech
was supposed to shield government officials against malicious comments.
Two court actions in as many days suggest that someone in the government
has decided to go after violators of those laws.
1. BESLAN SURVIVORS GROUP IS TO BE BRANDED EXTREMIST?
2. SLIGHTING PUTIN CARRIES HEFTY PUNISHMENT
