Positive action report now available in 20 languages

�Putting Equality into Practice�, the European Commission�s annual
brochure on non-discrimination, is now available online in 20 languages.

This edition�s focus is on positive action and the role such measures
can play in employment and other spheres. Articles from experts in the
field look at the difficulties in defining the concept and the legal
landscape. A number of practical case studies of positive action are
also presented. The final section looks to the future and how to make a
success of positive action measures.

of legal experts in the field of non-discrimination

New and forthcoming reports from antidiscrimination legal experts 

The �Network of legal experts in the field of non-discrimination�
<http://www.migpolgroup.com/topics/2077.html> reports on legislative
developments in all 27 EU Member States. The network�s fifth edition of
its bi-annual law reviews once again covers the legal situation relating
to the implementation of equality legislation from both European and
national level.

Also in this edition, Giancarlo Cardinale, lawyer at the Council of
Europe�s European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI)
presents ECRI�s perspective on the challenges ahead for European
anti-discrimination law. 

Lisa Waddington, European Disability Forum Chair at Maastricht
University, addresses the issue of whether protection against
discrimination by association is covered by the anti-discrimination
directives. 

Bea Bodrogi, a lawyer at the legal Defence Bureau for National and
Ethnic Minorities (NEKI) in Hungary considers the implementation of the
directives provision on �legal standing�.

Deadline approaches for journalists

Entries can be submitted to the �For Diversity. Against Discrimination�
Journalist Award until 30 September 2007. The Award recognises and
rewards journalists who contribute with their work to a better public
understanding of the benefits of diversity and the fight against
discrimination in society. Both print and online articles are eligible.

Truck tour rolls on

This year�s stop-discrimination truck tour has started on the second leg
of its 2007 tour. Starting this month, the truck will visit 10
additional cities in Romania, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Spain,
Belgium, Italy and Portugal. Each stop is a focal point for
locally-organised events promoting the �For Diversity. Against
Discrimination� campaign and the European Year of Equal Opportunities
for All. The tour will celebrate its grand finale at the closing
conference of the European Year in Lisbon in November.

September Spotlight  

Bulgaria and Romania were active participants in the Community Action
Programme to combat discrimination between 2001 and 2006. Since becoming
full Member States of the European Union on 1 January 2007, they have
built on this experience and are now undertaking a range of initiatives
as part of the European Year of Equal Opportunities for All. Find out
