Job Announcement: Coordinator, Global Forced Evictions Programme
 
The Centre on Housing Rights and Evictions (COHRE) is looking for a
Coordinator to manage its Global Forced Evictions Programme (GFEP).
 
COHRE is an international human rights organisation based in Geneva,
Switzerland, working to protect and promote the human right to adequate
housing. COHRE has regional programmes in Africa, the Americas and the
Asia-Pacific region, along with thematic programmes on housing and
property restitution; women and housing rights; the right to water;
litigation of economic, social and cultural rights; and forced
evictions. Established in 1994, COHRE operates from offices around the

The aim of the GFEP is to monitor, prevent and remedy forced evictions
throughout the world. The GFEP gathers information about planned,
implemented and averted evictions around the world, and uses its
extended network to publicise and advocate against the practice. The
programme undertakes rapid response actions, such as writing protest
letters and releasing media statements. In a selection of COHRE key
focus countries, the GFEP works intensively with affected communities,
support organisations and other partners to undertake fact-finding
missions; joint advocacy at local, national and international levels;
media campaigns; and legal action. The GFEP also provides research and
other support to the work of all COHRE programmes.
 
The GFEP Coordinator will be based in one of COHRE's offices; the exact
location will be determined as part of the selection process.
 
The Coordinator will be responsible for:
 
� Developing and implementing the programme�s annual Plan of Action
� Supervising COHRE staff in the programme and recruiting staff when
necessary
� Fundraising and writing GFEP activity reports
� Developing and managing the GFEP's annual budget
� Coordinating evictions monitoring, research and database management
� Producing the biennial Global Survey on Forced Evictions, as well as
other reports and publications
� Coordinating and participating in fact-finding missions, rapid
response actions, and other advocacy actions at local, national and
international levels
� Organising training programmes
� Networking with organisations and communities resisting forced
evictions and engaging in joint strategies and initiatives.
 
Required Skills/Background:
 
� Experience with housing rights, displacement or forced eviction issues
� Excellent writing, research, and analytical skills
� Experience in coordination, project management, financial management,
facilitation and training
� Ability to work quickly and effectively under pressure
� Ability to make public presentations to a variety of audiences
� A proven manager of people, who enjoys helping colleagues perform to
the best of their potential
� Willingness to travel often (sometimes on short notice and for
extended periods of time)
� Written and oral fluency in English (other languages would also be
considered an asset)
� A postgraduate degree, preferably in human rights law, development, or
other related fields.
