New Tactics NEW Community-based Website � Open September 18
Membership will be open on 18 September. An additional New Tactics
notice will be sent to you on the launch date with all the instructions
to create your new account. Become a member and take advantage of all
the great benefits!
This is an opportunity for you to get involved with human rights
advocates around the world! Meet and interact with activists, educators,
students, and other practitioners. Share ideas and seek feedback, join
discussions and collaborate with colleagues using NEW interactive
features.
By joining the New Tactics On-line Community, you will gain at least
three ways of interacting with others. These include dialogues
(community member blogs), including the inter-Tactica blog, groups
available to members of the website, and monthly featured tactical
discussions.

RESOURCES: Featured Tactical Discussions and Blogs
Featured Tactical discussions � beginning September 26
Each month, beginning in September, New Tactics will feature a tactical
discussion on a specific tactic and its adaptability to other contexts
and issue areas. Members will have the opportunity to dialogue with
featured resource people from the New Tactics network who have used and
implemented the tactic.
The September tactical discussion will feature �Information is Power:
Librarianship and Human Rights.� Librarians (information
experts/workers) can serve a critical role in helping organizations to
research, document, collect, organize and store their information to be
more efficient and effective in their mission and work. But
librarianship means so much more! Watch for news about how to join the
on-line community so you can be part of this great discussion.

UN Trust Fund to End Violence Against Women - Application deadline:

The UN Trust Fund to End Violence Against Women is now accepting grant
applications for its 12th grant cycle (2007) related to one of the
following areas of
work:
1) Implementation of existing laws, policies and plans of action to
address violence against women. 2)Reducing the twin pandemics of

Linking Solidarity Survey - Deadline 3 September, 2007
Linking Solidarity, a programme of the Humanist Committee on Human
Rights (HOM), aims to support other organisations or individuals in
their work against enforced disappearances. In the work against enforced
disappearances information plays an important role. Linking Solidarity
therefore invites you to respond to a survey intended to find out about
your needs with regard to specific information on disappearances and
ways to publish this information. Your answers will provide us with
input for the development of an online resource centre and a manual on
disappearances. The manual will become a guide on how to make use of the
international legal instruments to protect persons form disappearances
(such as the new Convention). The manual is meant to assist family
members and the group of people and organisations directly assisting and
supporting family members in their search for truth and justice. Your
input will make sure the resource centre and manual respond to you
particular needs!!! It guarantees these initiatives can be of direct
benefit to your work!!! The survey will take between 20 - 30 minutes

American Councils for International Education Fellowships - Deadline: 1
October, 2007; and 15 January, 2008
With funding from the U.S. Department of State's Program for the Study
of Eastern Europe and the Independent States of the Former Soviet Union
(Title VIII), the American Councils for International Education (
http://www.americancouncils.org ) provides full support for graduate
students, faculty, and post- doctoral scholars to conduct
policy-relevant research for three to nine months in Belarus, Central
Asia, Russia, the South Caucasus, Ukraine, and Moldova. Scholars in the
social sciences and humanities are eligible to apply for the program.
While a wide range of topics receive support each year, all funded
research must contribute to a body of knowledge enabling the U.S. to
better understand the region and formulate effective policies within
it. The total value of Title VIII Research Scholar fellowships ranges
from $5,000 to $25,000 each. Students and scholars interested in Spring
and Summer 2008 programs will need to apply by October 1, 2007;
applicants interested in Fall and Academic Year 2008-2009 programs

Torture and grew out of its experience as a creator of new tactics and a
treatment center that also advocates for the protection of human rights
from a unique position�one of healing and reclaiming civic
leadership.
