2007 Human Rights Award
Academy on Human Rights and Humanitarian Law
American University Washington College of Law
The Academy on Human Rights and Humanitarian Law is pleased to announce
a Call for Papers for the 2007 Human Rights Award. The Human Rights
Award is an annual competition sponsored by the Academy on Human Rights
and Humanitarian Law that seeks to stimulate the production of scholarly
work in international human rights law. Candidates for the Award
include those with a law degree who have demonstrated experience or
interest in international human rights law. In order to participate in
the Award, applicants must submit an unpublished legal article/paper
written in English or Spanish solely by the candidate. The Academy will
grant two Awards, one for the best article in English and the other for
the best article in Spanish. The Award in each case will consist of:
1. a scholarship* to participate in the 2007 Summer Program of the
Academy on Human Rights and Humanitarian Law
2. travel expenses* to attend the Academy in Washington, D.C.
3. living expenses* for the three weeks of the Academy
For the year 2007, candidates must choose a subject pertaining to
�Reparations in International Human Rights Law.� The articles must be
25-35 pages in length, including footnotes, double spaced, and using
12-point Times New Roman font. Articles may be sent via email to
[email protected] in Microsoft Word format. Articles sent via
fax will not be accepted. Articles must be received by February 1, 2007
at 5:00 pm EST.
The Honor Jury deciding the Award is comprised of professionals with a
recognized expertise in international human rights law.

Their decision will be announced via the Academy�s website on March 30,
2007. The best papers will be published in the proceedings of the
Academy and/or in other media that the Academy may deem appropriate,
including the American University International Law Review.
