ANNOUCEMENT OF VACANCY:  Staff Attorney

The European Roma Rights Centre (ERRC), the leading legal advocacy 
organisation working on Roma rights issues in Europe, seeks to hire a
Staff Attorney. The ERRC is a public interest law organization which
acts to secure the human rights of Roma and other persons regarded as
"Gypsies" throughout Europe and serves as a legal resource center for
advocates working in this field.  The ERRC pursues its objectives by
engaging in strategic legal action, research and policy development,
human rights training, and domestic and international advocacy.  ERRC
legal work includes strategic litigation, legal advocacy, and legal
training for Roma rights advocates.

The staff attorney based in Budapest, Hungary, works with the legal team
to develop and implement legal strategy, handles selected cases for
clients, drafts amicus curaie briefs and legal submissions to
international judicial fora, works with local NGOs and governments, and
drafts articles for publication.  The staff attorney is supervised by
the Senior Legal Advisor and works with other attorneys locally and
throughout Europe in a team atmosphere.  The staff attorney may also
participate in legislative and policy review and drafting, advocacy and
lobbying, as well as training and public education on legal issues.

The successful candidate will have:
1) A track record of  human rights and anti-discrimination experience or 
demonstrated interest;
2) Litigation interest and understanding of the legal systems and human 
rights/anti-discrimination legislation in Central, Eastern and 
South-Eastern Europe and the CIS;
3) A demonstrated capacity to develop and apply successfully innovative 
legal strategies;
4) Excellent English language legal writing skills, and fluency in both 
written and spoken  English, and good working knowledge of at least one 
other language of the CEE/NIS region;
5) The ability to work in a team atmosphere.

Membership of a bar association in a Council of Europe Member State
preferred.

Prior work or other experience with Romani communities is a distinct
advantage.

Prior work or intern experience with public interest organizations
focusing on impact human rights and anti-discrimination litigation is a
distinct advantage.

ANNOUCEMENT OF VACANCY: Women's Rights Officer

The European Roma Rights Center (ERRC) herewith invites applications for 
the position of Women's Rights Officer. The Women's Rights Officer will 
join the ERRC team in the framework of the ERRC Programmes Department, 
International Advocacy Unit, and will be responsible inter alia for:
- Developing ERRC policies related to womens rights, rights of the child
and other human rights/Roma rights issues as they pertain to gender,
including sexual orientation issues (hereinafter "womens rights and
related 
fields");
- Researching international and domestic advocacy opportunities related
to womens rights and related fields;
- Writing ERRC policy and submission documents related to women's rights
and related fields;
- Engaging in research, including field research, as necessary for ERRC
activities in womens rights and related fields;
- Engaging in ERRC project work and roundtable/workshop activities in
womens rights and related fields;
- Introducing a gender component to all relevant ERRC activities;
- Communicating ERRC womens rights/gender/related goals to Romani
activists and other members of the Romani communities, as well as
seeking input from members of Romani communities and other relevant as
to ERRC women's rights and related strategies;
- Other, as relevant.

Required Qualifications:
- Excellent written and spoken English;
- Extensive knowledge of and familiarity with issues facing Roma and
Romani communities;
- Extensive knowledge of and experience with gender issues;
- Familiarity with international human rights law and intergovernmental
bodies relevant to human rights issues in Europe;
- A university degree, preferably in law, human rights, political
science or a related humanities or social science field.

Also Preferred:
- Knowledge of Romani language;
- Previous experience in human rights;
