Bratislava, 26. 12. 2005, 15:10 (CTK) - Miserable social conditions of a
large part of Romany minority in Slovakia are not improving despite many
social programmes, according to a report on the solution to the
situation of the Romany community, drafted by the Deputy Prime Minister
Pal Csaky and published today. The Romanies without any education only
with difficulties find jobs, while a falling number of Romany children
attend secondary schools and their health conditions is worsening, the
report said.

Prague, 22. 12. 2005, 11:15 (CTK) - The Jewish community has criticised
the planned meeting of mayor of Orlova, north Moravia, with members of
the National Resistance extremist movement that set up security patrols
to monitor the streets over local Romanies, the daily Mlada fronta Dnes
(MfD) writes today. "It seems to me unbelievable," said Tomas Kraus from
the Federation of Jewish Communities in the Czech Republic, commenting
on today's meeting between municipal officials and extremists.

Romanies in Michalovce have no drinking water

Michalovce, 21. 12. 2005, 16:50 (CTK) - Some three dozens Romanies today
protested against their poor living conditions outside the Michalovce
Town Hall and handed a petition to the authorities demanding that
drinking water supplies be ensured as quickly as possible. "Because now
we have to beg for water or to drink and cook on the water that we take
from the nearby Laborec river that is contaminated with carcinogenic
substances," the petition says. "If no one takes our situation seriously
we will consider this discrimination and will subsequently ask for
political asylum through the European Parliament," the petition says.

Ostrava, 16. 12. 2005, 09:45 (ASTK) - Ostrava police have finally
discovered and detained the 26-year-old Romany who verbally and
physically attacked another man in a bar in Ostrava- Hrabuvka last week,
the regional daily Moravskoslezsky denik writes today.

Prague, 14. 12. 2005, 10:56 (ROMEA) - "Minorities among us" that was the
theme of this year literary and art competition announced by the Romea
association in autumn 2005. Young people up to 18 years old could send
their work into our redaction until the beginning of December. "We have
got 259 art and 140 literary pieces all together," said coordinator of
the project, Stanislava Ondova. According to her opinion, there was more
than 100 primary, specialized and special schools form all over the
Czech Republic.

Prague, 8. 12. 2005, 19:30 (CTK) - In tribute of Milena Hubschmannova,
who tragically died this year, there was a commemoration held in the
Moramorovy sal of the Prague's Lucerna. "The aim is to put in
remembrance her work and her spirit and to recall her contribution to
Czech as well as worldwide Roma people," said Jarmila Balazova, member
of the Romea association for the CTK. Romea hold this event.
