EDITORIAL 
 
 
Dear readers, 
 
 
as you may have heard, Eurolang (and EBLUL) have a cash flow crisis, it
has led to a sometimes intermittent Eurolang news service. 
 
Nevertheless, despite the lack of finance Eurolang will continue to
operate with our network of journalists continuing to send in articles.
I hope that you can bear with us. 
 
However, in order to broaden our financial base Eurolang would like to
ask readers to send in any suggestions or ideas to the editor
(davythhicks@yahoo.co.uk) that they may have for sponsoring Eurolang
and/ or the setting up of partnerships. 
 
So far news articles on Eurolang news have been freely available and we
hope to continue with this policy, however, I would like to ask all
media, who have up until now republished our articles freely, to
consider paying a fair fee for republishing. 
 
Over the last few months we have received much encouragement and our
readership is at an all time high, we would like take this opportunity
to thank you for your continuing support.

Liebe Leserinnen und Leser, 
 
 
wie Sie vielleicht schon erfahren haben, befindet sich Eurolang (und
Eblul) zur Zeit in einer akuten finanziellen Krise, die manchmal zu
einem sporadischen Nachrichtenservice f?hrte. 
 
Dennoch wird Eurolang trotz Geldmangels weiterhin bestehen bleiben, mit
dem Netzwerk an Journalistinnen und Journalisten, die uns weiterhin
Artikel zusenden. 
 
Um unsere finanzielle Basis jedoch erweitern zu k?nnen, m?chte Eurolang
unsere Leserinnen und Leser darum bitten, Vorschl?ge oder Ideen and den
Redakteur (davythhicks@yahoo.co.uk) zu schicken, die Sie vielleicht zur
F?rderung und/ oder zur Bildung von Partnerschaften haben. 
 
Bisher waren Nachrichtenartikel auf Eurolang stets kostenlos zug?nglich,
und wir hoffen, dass wir diesen Grundsatz beibehalten k?nnen.
Nichtsdestotrotz m?chte ich alle Medien, die bis jetzt unsere Artikel
kostenlos neu publizieren durften, darum bitten, die Bezahlung einer
gerechten Geb?hr f?r die Neupublizierung in Erw?gung zu ziehen. 
 
W?hrend der letzten Monate haben wir viel Ermutigung erhalten, und
unsere Leserschaft ist anzahlm??ig auf dem H?chststand. Wir m?chten

EBLUL IN CRISIS: EUROLANG SPEAKS TO THE BUREAU'S PRESIDENT, BOJAN

Rumours have been circulating in the European press over the last few
months claiming the demise of European Bureau of Lesser Used Languages
(EBLUL). After a Council meeting in Stockholm, EBLUL�s President, Mr
Bojan Brezigar and the new Board, requested an interview with Eurolang
in order to set the record straight. 
 
 
 
"A MOMENTOUS DAY" FOR SCOTTISH GAELIC

On Monday the Scottish Executive presented Parliament with revised,
toughened- up legislation which will give Scottish Gaelic official
status in Scotland. One improvement is that it will require local
councils to consider the language when forming education policies. 
 
 
 
GERMANY'S NATIONAL MINORITIES ESTABLISH A MINORITY COUNCIL

Representatives of the four autochthonous national minorities of Germany
- Sydslesvigsk Forening of the Danish minority, the Central Council of
Sinti and Roma, Domowina (Union of Lusatian Sorbs) and the Frasche R?dj
(Council of Frisians) have signed an agreement to launch a common
minority council.. 
 
 
 
FIRST GALICIAN LANGUAGE PLAN - 20 YEARS LATER!

Although the 1983 Law on the Galician Language required the
establishment of a plan to develop and promote Galician, little progress
has been made. Now, 20 years later, the Galician Parliament has
unanimously approved a plan containing aims and means to increase the
use of Galician. However, language activists are critical.

AND MULTILINGUALISM, CALLS FOR �MORE FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR MINORITY
LANGUAGES�

In Monday�s hearing for designate European Commissioners in front of the
European Parliament, Jan Figel MEP called for more financial support for
minority languages, but without mentioning any return of the B-line
budget for these languages. 
 
 
 
CALL FOR DEBATE ON STATUS OF CATALAN IN THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT

Catalan MEP Bernat Joan (EFA) is set to continue the campaign for
Catalan to be used in the European Parliament after last week�s somewhat
�surreal� debate where Mr Joan had to use German in an exchange with
President Borrell even though they both speak Catalan. Moreover, the
situation reveals the urgent need for the language policy in the
European Parliament to be amended and updated.
