***CONFERENCE INFORMATION***
The 2� Rieti International meeting will be held from 16th to 19th June
2004 on the delicate issue of refugees and asylum seekers. The Meeting
is organized by ARI onlus (Associazione Rieti Imigrant - provincial)
with the support of the social services division of the municipality of
Rieti.
After the conclusion of the first edition of the Meeting unwound in
2003, we expect to receive over 90 representatives from European states
and all over the world. (The last edition of the meeting was represented
by 11 different countries).
The meeting consists of multiple objectives: to initiate a dialogue
among the Italian municipalities; to interact, to integrate and to
elaborate effective working methods in improving the quality of services
offered to refugees and asylum seekers; to voice support to the refugees
and asylum seekers; to compare and confront the legal, legislative and
different political aspects adopted in the member states of the European
Union; to involve representatives of public, national and international
institutions (European Union, Council of Europe) and to elaborate on
common documents to submit to their institutions of affiliation.
The Meeting of Rieti, while experiencing the success of its previous
session is becoming a reference point in the field of Asylum. The
participation of organizations operating in different reality (last year
Spain, Canada, Hungary, Ireland, Holland, Belgium, Germany, Russia and
Turkey participated) will give e concrete opportunity to participants to
view the global phenomenon of Asylum and to adopt effective measures to
safeguard the refugees and asylum seekers.
For practical reasons the meeting is structured in plenary session in
the mornings (9.00 - 13.00hrs) and working groups in the afternoons
(15.15 - 18.15hrs). The experts who intervened in the morning sessions
will be present during the afternoon in order to provide with ample
space in exchanging of views and ideas in smaller groups. The results
obtained by the working groups will be presented during the plenary
session the following morning.
The contour consists of different evening activities, it concludes with
a dance performed by multi ethnic groups and music..
