Invitation to join a special media project with the Norwegian Broadcasting
Corporation, NRK Sami Radio in Norway.
The Sami division of the Norwegian Broadcasting Cooperation (NRK) has
started a new project with the purpose of building up a common network
linking indigenous television and radio stations worldwide. This cooperation
will enable indigenous broadcasters from all countries to quickly exchange
news-stories, documentaries and other information on indigenous issues.
As an alternative to mainstream news this cooperation focuses on indigenous
journalism and sharing indigenous stories. This provides an opportunity to
broadcast comparable and related information. In this way we can benefit
each other and bring the indigenous world closer together.
The common network will be based on a website, mail- and address list. Any
indigenous broadcaster with access to this network can view, listen and
download full-quality news stories from all other broadcasters in the
database. The website is at stage of planning and construction at the NRK
main office in Oslo and we have put up a FTP-server for testing.
Currently NRK Sami Radio has beneficial relationships with Swedish
Television and radio and YLE in Finland. In addition, we cooperate with
Kalaallit Nunaat Radio (KNR) in Greenland and the Sami radio-station in
Lovozero on the Kola Peninsula, Russia.
We look forward to hearing from you and hope to include you as a partner in
this project. In order to keep the project moving forward, please reply
within two weeks and do not hesitate to contact us with your opinions and
questions for further information.
In addition we want to make contacts with reporters who work internationally
within indigenous stories
We kindly ask you to forward this invitation to any other potential partners
who may be interested in this media project.
With best regards
Jan Henrik Hætta, producer.

Briefly about us: Since 1933 NRK, Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation, has
developed into a multimedia broadcaster with 3500 employees, where NRK Sami
Radio is organized as an own division within NRK. NRK Sami Radio is the main
public service broadcaster for indigenous peoples in Norway. Together with
the Sami departments of the national broadcasters as YLE, Finnish
Broadcasting Company in Finland (about YLE:
http://www.yle.fi/fbc/thisyle.shtml <http://www.yle.fi/> )
(<http://www.yle.fi/samiradio/>), SVT, Swedish television in Sweden (about
Sveriges Television : <http://www.svt.se/svtinfo/inenglish/index.html>) ,
Swedish Radio ( <http://www.sr.se/sameradion/> ) and with KNR in Greenland
(<http://www.knr.gl/>) NRK Sami Radio offers daily public services with
indigenous news-stories and cultural programmes on television, radio,
teletext and Internet. In addition we also cooperate with the Sami
Radio-station in Lovozero, Russia.
NRK - A public service broadcasting institution
NRK is licence-fee financed and non-commercial to ensure freedom of speech
and information.
The concept of «public service broadcasting» stands for: quality,
responsibility for the national cultural heritage and obligations to
society.
Since 1933 NRK has developed into a multimedia broadcaster with 3500
employees. Today NRK produces programmes and other forms of
media-information for television, radio, Internet, mobile phones and other
digital media 24 hours a day. During a week every Norwegian, one way or
another, makes use of what NRK offers. No other media-company in Norway can
show equivalent ratings.
Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation, NRK, has upheld the best reputation as a
provider of quality
broadcasting to the Norwegian public. NRK1 occupies an exceptionally
favorable position: no other
licence-financed public broadcasting channel in Scandinavia can boast such a
large share of
television viewers. Most of the public will at all times find something to
interest them in NRK’s wide
choice of radio and television programmes, Internet pages and teletext
items.
NRK has been highly successful in making and presenting programmes designed
to satisfy a wide range of interests.
In regard to special events and other important happenings the Internet
NRK.no <http://www.nrk.no/> clearly plays an important role as a source of
news.
Furthermore, as in previous years, NRK teletext again provided plenty
evidence of its popularity, attracting more than 2.2 million users a week.
