MICORSOFT WINDOWS AVAILABLE IN WELSH, NEW SOFTWARE AVAILABLE IN BRETON

>From now it will be possible to use popular Microsoft packages such as
Word and Outlook in Welsh. This has been made possible after discussions
between Microsoft and the Welsh Language Board. With many individuals as
well as companies and public bodies using the Welsh language in their
every day activities this is seen as a great step forward for the
language. Meanwhile, software such as Filezilla 2.2.9 and the search
engine Google are now available in Breton. 


SWEDISH MINING COMPANY'S DEMOLITION OF SORBIAN VILLAGE CONTINUES

A few days ago, the 500 year-old church of the now nearly completely
destroyed Sorbian village of Horno in the federal state of Brandenburg,
eastern Germany, was demolished to make space for the large-scale open
cast lignite mining of the major Swedish mining company Vattenfall. The
inhabitants of the small village located in the Lusatian mining region
have already resettled to a new village 10km away in the suburb of the
town Forst after a long lasting dispute, reported on Eurolang. 


NEW MINORITY MAGAZINE 'AZINLIKCA' LAUNCHED IN GREECE

The first, and up until now, only bilingual magazine, has been published
by members of the Turkish minority in Greece. It reached its 5th number
this month and feedback to date is generally positive. 


HUNGARIAN DUAL CITIZENSHIP REFERENDUM FAILS BECUASE OF LOW TURNOUT

Results in so far from the referendum in Hungary on Sunday show a
majority voting in favour of offering dual citizenship for the ethnic
Hungarians living outside of Hungary, however the proposed legislation
is unlikely to become law because there were not enough votes cast for
it. 


END OF LINE FOR THE WELSH LANGUAGE BOARD

The National Assembly of Wales has announced that the Welsh Language,
Board, established in 1994, will be abolished in 2007. This is part of
the Labour dominated Assembly Government�s aim of reducing the number of
semi-official bodies. In July 2004 it announced that bodies with
responsibilities for economic development, education and tourism would
be abolished in 2006, and at the beginning of December it announced the
end of the language board, the curriculum assessment board and the
health professionals� body.
