UNITED E-NEWS 09/09/03 - WHO SHALL WE BLAME NOW?
November 9th 2003 - INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST FASCISM AND ANTISEMITISM

In various kind of activities, anti-fascist and anti-racist
organisations throughout Europe commemorate the victims of the
"Kristallnacht"-pogrom and Hitler's fatal policy. The
"Kristallnacht"-pogrom of 9 November 1938 marks the beginning of the
Holocaust, the extermination policy of the National-Socialists against
Europe's Jewish population. In the 1930's massive economic and political
crisis Hitler was able to pick out Jews as scapegoats on whom all the
hate and fears could be focused.

Hitler's strategy to produce scapegoats is, sad enough, not purely
historical, but is a very actual threat against almost every group of
people outside the "mainstream". Even today, 65 years after the
"Kristallnacht", people are blamed as scapegoats by politicians and
majority-groups, that's why UNITED has produced new campaign posters
with the slogan "Who shall we blame now?" to fight tendencies within our
societies to find new scapegoats in minority-groups.

UNITED for Intercultural Action is the biggest pan-European network
against nationalism, racism, fascism and in support of migrants and
refugees and connects over 560 organisations from 49 European countries.
Besides the anual International Day Against Fascism and Antisemitism,
UNITED coordinates European campaigns on the issues of racism, fascism
and refugees.
