WORKSHOP
FOR THE RECORD 2002
A Tool to Access UN Human Rights Information
Hosted by Human Rights Internet (HRI)
With the support of the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs
Thursday, April 10th, 2003 10:00 to 13:00
Room XXIII, Palais des Nations
It is our pleasure to invite you to a workshop on Thursday, April 10th,
2003 marking the launch of the 2002 edition of For the Record: The
United Nations Human Rights System, a resource aimed at facilitating
access to and research of the UN human rights documentation.
Produced by Human Rights Internet, For the Record is an electronic
report that provides easy access to human rights information emanating
from the UN by bringing it all together in one place, on the HRI website
(www.hri.ca/fortherecord) and on a CD-ROM. For the Record offers
objective summaries of all the major human rights reports generated and
decisions taken by the UN from 1 January to 31 December, organizing and
classifying them by theme and by country. Hyperlinks included in the
summaries allow access to the full-text original UN documents, making it
easy for users to obtain primary sources when needed.
For the Record is an invaluable resource for your monitoring and
advocacy work, particularly your work at the Commission on Human Rights.
It provides reference for report writing, drafting recommendations, and
project proposals. It is also an effective tool for dissemination of
information and human rights education.
We will present For the Record at a workshop on Thursday, April 10th,
where we will demonstrate how to navigate it and maximize your use of
it. You will be given an opportunity to familiarize yourself first-hand
with its key features and contents, and learn how this tool can be best
applied to your work.
Three one-hour sessions will be conducted between 10:00 and 13:00 in
room XXIII at the Palais des Nations. Demonstrations will start on the
hour. You are welcome to attend the session that is most convenient for
you. You will be able to ask your questions in either English or French.
A number of CD-ROMs of For the Record 2002 will be distributed to
workshop participants.
