PRESS RELEASE
EBLUL launches 3rd edition of Vade-Mecum
Brussels, 19.2.3 On Friday 21 February, International Mother Tongue
Day, the European Bureau for Lesser Used Languages (EBLUL) will launch
the third edition of its Vade-Mecum. The ceremony open to the public -
will take place in the head office of the French Community Government,
Place Surlet de Chokier 15-17, Brussels at 2 pm. We are delighted to
welcome the following speakers:
Herv HASQUIN, President of the French Community Government
Jean-Maurice DEHOUSSE, MEP
Jean-Luc FAUCONNIER, vice-president of EBLUL.
The Vade-Mecum includes international legal documents on the languages
and cultures of those European linguistic minority communities
represented by the Bureau. The volume is divided into two parts, the
first dedicated to international institutions, the second lists websites
related to European minority linguistic issues. It will provide an
invaluable reference and educational tool for a wide audience: officials
and promoters of regional and minority languages and cultures, speakers
of regional and minority languages and academics and researchers.
"The reports and resolutions from the European Parliament, the Council
of Europe, the OSCE, the United Nations, UNESCO () in the Vade-mecum
offer a useful reference tool, which serves to keep track of the trend
of consolidation of standards for the promotion and protection of
regional or minority languages. This trend is now a reality of the new
Europe", says Professor Fernand de Varennes.
The launch ceremony forms part of a series of activities undertaken by
the Bureau within UNESCOs international decade for a culture of peace.
It aims once more to highlight the role the Bureau plays in promoting
linguistic diversity in Europe and the activities undertaken by
international institutions in favour of minority language communities.
We would be delighted to welcome you to the event.
