7 April will be celebrated in Moldova as the Day of Inter-Ethnic Concord

Starting from 2003, 7 April will be celebrated in Moldova as the Day of
Inter-Ethnic Concord. The President of teh Republic of Moldova Vladimir
Voronin came up with the initititive to set up this [memorial day] to
commemorate victims of Jewish pogroms which took place on 7-8 April
1903. The Government today supported the draft resolution of the
parliament, which envisages declaration of 7 April the Day of
Inter-Ethnic Concord.
Agency INTERLIK's note: During the Jewish pogroms in Kishinev on 7-8
April 1903, 51 persons were killed, 424 wounded. 700 houses and shops
were demolished.
