CALL FOR ARTICLES
The Youth Helsinki Citizens' Assembly of Moldova with the support of the
Royal Netherlands Embassy in Kiev is going to publish the 11th issue of
the youth magazine "The Collage"-Moldova* in three languages: English,
Romanian, and Russian. The 11th number of the magazine will be focused
on the Roma issue. We would be glad to receive articles and other
contributions (arts, photographs, proposals) connected with the Roma
theme (the article can be in the field of history, today's
discrimination of the Roma in Europe, today's Roma image in press,
projects directed on the improvement of situation with Roma minority in
any country, etc.) by the 20th of September. The article must be written
in one of the languages: English, Romanian, Russian.
Below you can find a short description of the Youth Helsinki Citizens�
Assembly of Moldova as well as the previous issues of our magazine.
We will be happy to send you the previous issues of our magazine, if
interested.

Description of the Youth Helsinki Citizens' Assembly of Moldova
The Youth Helsinki Citizens' Assembly of Moldova (YHCA of Moldova) is a
non-government national non-profit citizens' association, which has as
its purpose the building of civil society in Moldova. There are 30
members of the YHCA of Moldova.
The YHCA of Moldova has been founded in 17.09.98 and officially
registered in 19.11.98. It has realised a number of projects aimed to
the conflict resolution and the establishment of tolerant and
co-operative atmosphere between persons of different ethnic origin. The
YHCA of Moldova craves for promotion of the European democratic ideas
and values in the country.
Among the projects of YHCA of Moldova one can see the first round-table
devoted to the International Day against Fascism and anti-Semitism (9 of
November of 1998). The proceedings of this conference have been
published by the YHCA of Moldova in three languages.
The YHCA of Moldova actively co-operates with the UNHCR Branch Office in
Moldova, aiming to promote tolerance of local population to refugees and
minorities. That is why we published the book "Anti-Judaism, or
Troglodyte World" against anti-Semitism as example of consequences of
interethnic intolerance, in two languages (Romanian and Russian).
The YHCA of Moldova actively co-operates with the OSCE Mission to
Moldova, foundation of USAID, and other international organisations. It
is permanently involved in the activities of International Youth Network
of HCA (Paris, France). The YHCA of Moldova is an active member and
supporter of the UNITED for Intercultural Action Network (the
Netherlands).
The main purpose of the YHCA of Moldova is the promotion of human rights
in the country with the involvement of youth. The organisation devotes
itself to the realisation of ideas and principles laid down in the OSCE
Helsinki Final Act (1975) and Prague Appeal of Helsinki Citizens�
Assembly (1990) among youth and by means of youth.
The key areas of activity are:
� ethnic tolerance, rights of national and linguistic minorities,
� fight against nationalism, racism and anti-Semitism,
� Transdniestrian and Gagauzian regional conflicts in Moldova, conflict
prevention policies,
� refugees' rights, women rights, vulnerable groups in the period of
transition,
�youth empowerment.
Youth HCA of Moldova is a branch of the HCA of Moldova, being
independent juridical person. The leaders of organisation work together
since April 1996 as youth co-ordinators of the "adult" HCA of Moldova.
Main activities of the organisation:
- Publication of the Moldovan edition of the International Youth
magazine "The Collage" in Romanian, Russian
and English (500 � 1000 copies, 80-100 pages) - 1999-2002.
Issue # 1 � Refugees in Moldova and world;
Issue # 2 � Ethnic and cultural diversity of Moldova;
Issue # 3 � Stereotypes and prejudices;
Issue # 4 � Youth of Moldova against Racial discrimination and
Intolerance;
Issue # 5 � Minority and Majority;
Issue # 6 �7 �Transdniestrian conflict resolution;
Issue # 8 � What do we know about Holocaust? (This issue was published
after 11th of September, that is why
we included the special section on growth of islamophobia);
Issue # 9 � Nationalism;
Issue # 10 � principles of sustainable development, strategy of Moldova
in this issue, etc.;
- Public opinion poll on the ethnic situation in Moldova (June-October
1998), supported by UNHCR in Moldova and publication of book "On the way
to the harmonization of interethnic relations in Moldova" (in English
and Russian);
- TV programme on the rights of refugees (September 25, 1998);
- Monitoring of media on the issues of inter-ethnic tolerance and enemy
images; publication of the brochure with main results of the monitoring
(1999, 2000, 2001);
- Educational seminars for the journalists "Hate speech and press"
(2001-2002);
- Round-tables against Fascism and anti-Semitism (November 9,
1998-2001), media campaigns devoted to 9th of November day, street
action on the 9th of November, 1998-2001; Round-tables and seminars
against racial discrimination on 21st of March, UN Day against Racial
Discrimination (1998-2002);
- Publication of the book "Anti-Judaism, or Troglodyte World" against
anti-Semitism as example of consequences of interethnic intolerance, in
two languages (Romanian and Russian);
- Organization of the national essay and picture contest for young
people "Youth of Moldova against Racial
Discrimination and Intolerance" devoted the International week of
anti-racism and the European Conference against Racial Discrimination
that will be organized by Council of Europe. (March 2000); organization
of the national essay contests "Youth of Moldova for Transdniestrian
conflict resolution", "What do I know about the Holocaust?", "Roma �
victims of the Holocaust", etc.;
- Media campaigns devoted to the 50th anniversary of Universal
Declaration of Human Rights, Street action on
the 10th of December 1998-2002 - the day of human rights;
- Publication of a set of the brochures "The Holocaust in Basarabia";
- Publication of the Informational Guide on legislation on minorities
protection (together with Ombudsmen Institute in Moldova, UNDP Programme
"Development of Human Rights and Democracy in Moldova");
- Publication of the comic book against discrimination and for
intercultural diversity (July 2001), etc.;
