APPOINTMENT OF THE HIGH COMMISSIONER ON NATIONAL MINORITIES

The Ministerial Council,

Recalling the decision of the CSCE Helsinki Summit 1992 to establish a
High Commissioner on National Minorities,

Expressing its gratitude to Mr. Max van der Stoel for his excellent
service as OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities as well as
for his readiness to continue in his position,

Decides:

- To extend, as an exceptional measure, the appointment of Mr. Max van
der Stoel until 30 June 2001, as well as;

- To appoint Mr. Rolf Ek�us as new High Commissioner on National
Minorities for a period of three years with effect from 1 July 2001.
