List matters
Dear MINELRES subscribers,
Let me inform you about re-arrangements with the list functioning.
First reason is that I was recently elected member of Latvian
parliament. Of course, I work in the Human Rights and Public Affairs
Committee, and will continue dealing with the minority rights issues.
In the meantime, in no way am I going to give up MINELRES and related
activities. According to our legislation, MPs are not allowed to
occupy any positions or to have other permanent jobs besides their
work in the parliament, except for lecturing, writing in media, or
research activities. Thus, I am not a director of the "Baltic Insight"
Centre any longer. Let me introduce the new director: Boris
Koltchanov, graduate from Political Science, University of Latvia, and
Central European University. Boris worked for several years with the
Latvian Centre for Human Rights and Ethnic Studies, and I believe he
is one of the best representatives of the younger generation of
Latvia's HR NGO workers.
BTW, CVs of the MINELRES project team will be available online soon.
One more comment: frankly, name is not the main criteria for involving
people into the MINELRES project :-).
As to me (i.e. "old Boris" :-), I remain in - in the capacity of a
consultant, fortunately, this is allowed by our laws. We will share
moderator's duties with "young Boris".
I will spend the entire next week in Paris participating in the Human
Rights Defenders Summit. I am afraid I will have neither time nor
acces to Internet there, this is why I'd like to make use of the
opportunity to congratulate everybody now with the 50th anniversary of
the Universal Declaration. Some people claim the adoption of the
Declaration was the main event of the 20th century - frankly, I do
share this view!
Thus, during the next week the MINELRES list will be run by "young
Boris". Everybody is welcome to continue submissions! We will do our
best to improve quality and practical usefullness of the list.
Yours,
Boris (the "old" one :-)
