Re: Transitions Online next issue
In Their Own Words" excerpts include an interview with former Slovak
Prime Minister Vladimir Meciar where he proclaims his government
delivered "absolute freedom".
Dear Sir: I have a comment on the above quote from Mr. Meciar:
If he is correct, it is too bad for his people, especially the weak,
the poor, the different, and the minority.
Absolute freedom means that "might is right." Absolute freedom
translates into the rule of the jungle, where there are no rules and
restrictions on the mighty, and everybody is free to target anyone for
exploitation, persecution, or extermination.
The quote also seems to indicate that Mr. Meciar, if he finds it
necessary to brag about having under his rule a jungle-like
situation, has no idea what democracy is about.
Just for his information, let me explain that democracy in the United
States of America means majority rule with minority rights enjoying
not only legal but constitutional protection!
