3. Kishmaria Helped
According to the information centre for political settlement in
Abkhazia, Abkhaz gunmen have released 28 Georgian hostages captured in
the village of Gagida, Gali district of Abkhazia, thanks to the
mediation of Mr Ruslan Kishmaria, the head of the district
administration.

3. The Russians Demand to Open the Frontier at the Psou River
The Russian Duma has recently demanded the Russian government to open
the frontier at the Psou river (Abkhaz sector of the Russian-Georgian
border), increase cross-border cargo transportation to boost
Abkhazia's economy and restore the railway from Gagra, Abkhazia, to
Adler, Russia. According to an earlier agreement, however, Russia, as
well as other CIS countries, has no rights to establish economic or
transport relations with the separatist regime of Abkhazia without
Tbilisi's approval.

4. Juridical Assessment of the 1991-92 Events:
the Outset of the National Reconciliation
Ombudsman David Salaridze has recently appealed the parliament to give
a juridical and political assessment of the 1991-92 events (the
overthrow of then-president Zviad Gamsakhurdia). Some observers and
the radical opposition consider his statement to be a pre-election
trick.
