Re: Czech citizenship law

For others who might be interested:

Dear Mr. Britt,

I am answering your message to the MINELRES moderator. Thanks for your
interest in the Czech citizenship law.

I recommend you to see this address:
http://www.psp.cz/docs/laws/1993/40_index.html (full text of the law) This
law has been adopted on 10.11.1993, changes were on 31.12.1993, 26.7.1995
and 23.5.1996.

Also, I advice you to see these pages:
http://www.radio.cz/romove/situation.html (The Situation of the Roma after
November 1989)

http://www.isn.ethz.ch/ihf/vienna96/12.htm ( OSCE Review Conference Vienna,
1996: Report by the International Helsinki Fed.)

Human rights reports on the Czech republic you can find here: http://www.ihf
-hr.org/AR97cze.htm#top (International Helsinki Federation
ANNUAL REPORT 1997 Czech Republic)
http://www.usis.usemb.se/human/czechrep.html (U.S. Department of State The
Czech Republic Country Report on Human Rights Practices for 1996)
Some reports were also published by the Human Rights Watch, Amnesty
International, but I don't think they are available on-line for free.

You could probably find some information in the English language Czech
newspaper Prague Post (http://www.praguepost.cz/) or the server
http://www.centraleurope.com/.

The Czech movement TOLERANCE has published several materials about the
citizenship law. We have them only in printed version, but if you contact
them (e-mail [email protected] or [email protected], tel. +420-2-2410 2361),
they would probably send it to you. Our commitee's Report has also a chapter
regarding the citizenship law. I can send it to you if you pass me your mail
address (eventually I can also send it as file by e-mail).

I wish you good luck in exploring this area,

Lucie Horakova, librarian of the Czech Helsinki Committee

Moderator adds: as to HRW and AI reports. The list of Human Rights Watch
publications on Czech Republic can be found at

Full text of the HRW recent report (June 1996) on Roma in Czech Republic is
available online at

Amnesty International website (http;//www.amnesty.org) has a search engine
which can be used for search by keywords (it gives some 16 documents related
to Czech Repuiblic).
