Special Focus Autumn 2001
CALL FOR PAPERS
The Journal on Ethnopolitics and Minority Issues in Europe (JEMIE) is
an electronic journal produced under the auspices of the European
Centre for Minority Issues. It is devoted to the analysis of current
developments in ethnopolitics and minority issues, and aims to
stimulate debate between practitioners and academics in these fields.
As an electronic journal it aims to make scholarly debate available to
as wide an audience as possible and provide a forum where young
scholars and practitioners can present their ideas alongside more
established actors.

The present Special Focus Autumn 2001 issue includes a central section
under this title:
ROMANI POLITICAL PARTICIPATION IN CENTRAL EASTERN EUROPE
Throughout the 1990s the issue of Roma and Sinti minorities has
steadily gained currency both in the academic and international
community. In Central Eastern Europe, different types of approaches
have recently been adopted towards the establishment of multi-layered
structures for political participation of the Roma and Sinti
communities. But whose interests are being addressed and what is the
role of academic study of this timely issue? The contributions to this
first Special Focus seek to answer these questions and generate
further debate on evolving Roma policy.
The contributions to this first Special Focus seek to answer these
questions and generate further debate on evolving Roma policy.
The Editors encourage any commentary on issues raised in this Special
Focus, especially from younger academics and practitioners who may
wish to contribute to this ongoing debate. These pieces should be no
longer than 3,000 words, and should be sent via email attachment to
[email protected]. Both commentaries and articles should be prepared in
accordance with the JEMIE Style Guide.
