`KOMITI' FILL WITH SMOKE OPENING CONFERENCE OF RADKO SOCIETY
Boris Neshovski, Pero Trajanovski and Tosho Trajkovski are the three
boys who set off the smoke bombs at the opening conference of the
Radko socitey in the Holiday Inn Hotel in Skopje. They are members of
the group known as `Komiti' (supporters of the football team
`Vardar'). Yesterday, they turned themselves in and in the presence of
their lawyer pleaded guilty.
In their words, the idea to fling bombs in the conference hall came to
them spontaneously on hearing that there was about to be founded the
Radko society designed against the Macedonian state and the Macedonian
nation. According to the members of the Radko society and the
Bulgarian ambassador to Macedonia, Angel Dimitrov, these boys are
hooligans and they should be deservedly punished, while according to
the major part of the Macedonian public they are heroes despite their
inappropriate behaviour. Charges have been pressed against them and
according to their lawyer, Vladimir Stefanovski, who decided to waive
the fees in their case, for the deed they committed - breach of the
peace - they are likely to get two months' imprisonment.
On the other hand, despite all the recent information and allegations
against the Radko society, the Public Prosecution in Ohrid announced
that they had not yet received sufficient evidence that `Radko' acts
in breach of the law and the Constitution. The Ohrid Court of Original
Jurisdiction issued an announcement which states that the Radko
society adheres to all the regulations. In other words, there is no
ground for the society to be wiped out >from the court register book.
As reported by `Vecher', the Ohrid court estimated that the fact that
the society is called `Radko' after the pseudonym of the notorious
enemy of Macedonia, Vancho Mihajlov, is not something that the Court
should take charge of. The Government should take on the
responsibility for that issue.
The Macedonian Institute for National History is not in favour of a
society based on anti-Macedonian ideas with a program full of names of
personalities and symbols about which the Macedonian history has long
since expressed its negative position. The latest publication of the
Institute, `Macedonian Historical Dictionary', contains the following
assessment: ` The principal slogan of the VMRO headed by Vancho
Mihajlov was independent Macedonia with Bulgarian ethnic character.
As a supporter of the policy of individual terror, helped by the
Bulgarian authorities, Mihajlov undertook many terrorist actions to
kill supporters of the VMRO left wing and the supporters of the
Macedonian national movement.'
