16 Croatian NGOs: Human Rights Demands
COORDINATION OF ORGANISATIONS FOR PROTECTION AND PROMOTION OF HUMAN
RIGHTS IN THE REPUBLIC OF CROATIA:
DEMANDS
Co-ordination of Organisations for Protection and Promotion of Human
Rights in the Republic of Croatia regards that national minorities'
acquired rights, as well as obligations taken by Croatia as member of
international community should be respected in drafting and passing
new Election Law.
We will consider that future Election Law is in accordance with the
Constitution of the Republic of Croatia and international standards of
protection of minorities if:
1. suspension of parts of Constitutional Law on Human Rights and
Rights of Ethnic and National Communities or Minorities is questioned
as soon as possible, in accordance with opinion of Venice Commission
of the Council of Europe, which was one of 21 demands that Croatia
accepted to fulfil when becoming member of the Council of Europe;
2. demands of representatives of national minorities, above all the
Council of National Minorities in the Republic of Croatia are taken
into account;
3. representatives of national minorities are allowed to vote both for
their minority representatives and for political parties' lists.
