The European Institute for the Media, in fulfilment of its Media
Monitoring and Assistance Programme financed by the European Union,
intends to organise a conference in Moscow on
Media and Conflict in the Transcaucasus
On 14 and 15 November 1998, journalists from the region, including
Nagorno-Karabakh, Abkhazia and South Ossetia, will discuss together
with media experts from European countries the role of the media in
the on-going conflicts in the Transcaucasus. The following topics
will be addressed:
- main problems of reporting on conflict and possible solutions,
including networking between journalists in the conflict area.
- EU, OSCE and Council of Europe recommendations and standards in the
relation to the media in situations of tension and conflict.
- ways of raising awareness in the Transcuacausus, Russia, the CIS and
Europe about the role and importance of the media in conflict zones.
The conference will take place in Moscow, Hotel �Akademitcheskaya? of
the Russian Academy of Science.
The minutes of the conference will be published by the European
Institute for the Media.
We are inviting journalists, academics, diplomats and other
professionals to attend the conference. There is no charge for
attendance.
