The 8th International Session on Human Rights Education
On December 15-19, 1998 the Moscow School of Human Rights, the Centre
for Civic Education of the RF Academy for Upgrading Professional
Standards and Retraining of Educators together with the Ministry of
General and Vocational Education of the Russian Federation and UNESCO
Chair for Human Rights and Democracy of Moscow State Institute of
International Relations are going to hold in Moscow the 8th
International Session
"Human Rights, Culture of Peace - Contents and Methods of Education"
(training for secondary schools teachers, higher schools professors,
instructors on social sciences, lecturers, managers of educational
institutions, NGOs representatives to prepare them to the teaching of
the human rights, civic education, democracy and peace courses).
Famous Russian and foreign specialists in the sphere of law, political
science, pedagogy, etc., representing the UN Centre for Human Rights,
UNESCO Bureau in Moscow, Committee on the Rights of the Child,
International Committee of the Red Cross, Helsinki Foundation for
Human Rights, the Presidential Commission on Human Rights and other
organizations take part in the Session.
The following problems will be discussed:
- civic education: experience of open societies - problems of Russia;
- international norms on human rights, the rights of the child, and
mechanisms of their protection;
- human rights in the democratic and post-totalitarian states;
- human rights, culture of peace and civic education in the system of
general education (aims, contents and methods of education and
upbringing);
- problems of conflictology and ways of conflict resolution.
During the Session you'll visit high schools, secondary schools which
have the status of federal experimental laboratory in Moscow Region
and Moscow, where you get acquainted with work of the teachers in
these problems, visit public lessons. At the Session the results of
the National Competition of Students' Works on the topic "Human Rights
and the Future of Russia" will be summed up (the Competition is held
in accordance with the Decree # 111-rp of the President of Russia of
April 4, 1998 in the frameworks of the Year of Human Rights in the
Russian Federation).
We invite your organisation, you in person and your colleagues to take
part in the Session. You may propose the theme of your report.
The Session is financed by the TACIS Democracy Programme in the
frameworks of the joint project "Human Rights Education in Kazakhstan
and the Russian Federation". Training and literature stuff are free of
charge for the participants.
Unfortunately we are not able to pay for your trip and stay in Russia.
Your participation in the Session will be a great helping for us.
The conference hotel is in the same building that the Conference will
take place. Last year the cost of accommodation was $20 per day
(without breakfast).
Applications to participation in the Session are being accepted until
November 15, 1998.
