INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST FASCISM AND ANTI-SEMITISM
Commemoration of the "Kristallnacht" pogrom

UNITED calls for action around 9 November 1999
On 9 November 1938 a massive nation-wide pogrom took place in
Nazi-Germany, secretly organised by a section of the Nazi party. It
left many Jews dead in the streets, and hundreds of Jewish businesses
and synagogues burnt and destroyed. In 1999 we commemorate how the
fascist regime came to power, we commemorate how violence against
minorities became commonplace, we commemorate how the borders of the
European states were being shut for Jews trying to escape from
Germany. We protest against: the extreme right rising again, violence
against minorities, the policies that shut refugees out.
JOIN THE CAMPAIGN
A special list of activities is updated regularly. European media are
informed about what is happening around Europe on this special day.
We will produce a report afterwards.
Please send us as soon as possible:
- an announcement of your activity
- materials, e.g. leaflets, posters
- newspaper articles
- short report
- photographs
You can order special campaign poster/newspapers, with lots of
information on the backside on "Kristallnacht" and about the racism of
Nazi Germany. It gives also information and ideas for action today. It
has been made to use in schools and youth organisations.
