NATMINET: Training the Roma to participate in elections
Show that you care for your life
Module 2 of the training program "Show that you care for your life",
aimed at training the Roma to participate in the electoral process,
took place in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, between 28 September-1 October,
2000.
This is part of a series of programs initiated by the German Marshall
Fund in order to improve civic participation in the electoral process.
As regards the Roma, there are two more projects aimed at the same
objective financed by the Aven Amentza Foundation and the Wassdas
Foundation, Cluj-Napoca, respectively.
Our program includes 35 young Roma from Transylvania, who will then
work with approximately 40 disadvantaged Roma communities. The
activities comprise of the detailed explanation of the voting
technique, of the specificity of parliamentary and presidential
elections, of the civic right and responsibility to vote, etc.
The final objective of the program is to have as many Roma as possible
vote in total awareness the candidates and parties that they decide
are best.
For further details about the project, contact Florin Moisa, Executive
Chair, The Roma Community Resource Center, Cluj-Napoca. e-mail:
