Minelres information request: Russian-language sources

Dear Kemal Seitveliev and other colleagues,

I can make some recommendations for point 2 and 3 of your question, as
well as a recommendation on a link to internet libraries. I hope other
colleagues can answer point 1 and remind of Internet resources which I
have failed to mention here. All of the internet resources referred to
below (except Libweb) can also be found in the ECMI Enriched Links
Database at

http://www.ecmi.de/cgi-bin/dbman/db.cgi?db=visitor&uid=guest.92531920574108&view_search=1

2) Information concerning aliens, refugees and citizenship legislation
in Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, Belorussia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia
in official local language, Russian (very important) and English.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is the premier
website for such information.
http://www.iom.int/

The IOM Migration Legislation Database is especially useful for
legislation. http://www.iom.int/defaultmigrationweb.asp

The UNHCR website provides country specific information on refugee
projects.
http://www.unhcr.ch/welcome.htm

UNHCR Refworld provides a collection of full-text databases, which
represents a comprehensive and reliable resource on refugee
information.
http://www.unhcr.ch/refworld/welcome.htm

The Forced Migration Projects (FMP) website identifies political and
socioeconomic conditions that cause the forced dislocations of people
in the Americas, the former Yugoslavia, and the former Soviet Union.
Although FMP has now ceased operations, the website archive contains a
wealth of useful information on these topics.
http://www.soros.org/fmp2/index.html

FMP also has a list of some 40 refugee sites, many of them subdivided
into geographic areas.

The following is useful for the situation in Latvia.

Latvian Center for Human Rights and Ethnic Studies
http://www.ihf-hr.org/lchres.htm

The Danish Refugee Council works to protect refugees from persecution
and to promote lasting solutions to refugee problems.

A good source for the overall human rights situation can be found in
the Annual Reports of the International Helsinki Federation for Human
Rights.
http://www.ihf-hr.org/reports/ar99/ar99bel.htm

The Centers for Pluralism Newsletter lists more than 700 NGOs in
Central and Eastern Europe and in the former Soviet Union (available
in Russian and in English).

A Russian Site on Human Rights and NGOs can be found at
http://www.ngo.ryazan.ru/

3) Information on research centers/think tanks/NGOs working on
migration, refugee and citizenship/statelessness issues. Any
internet-available data on those organizations, their activities,
publications, projects would be appreciated.

The MINELRES website includes reports and summaries on legislation,
and reports and links regarding NGO activity.
http://www.riga.lv/minelres/index.htm

The NGO Locator: Information & Links is an extensive collection of
links about a variety of NGOs active in Central and Eastern Europe.

The European Research Centre on Migration and Ethnic Relations ERCOMER
is a
respected research institute in the field.
http://www.ercomer.org/

The WWW Virtual Library: Migration and Ethnic Relations is a vast
collection of annotated links.

International, and is in Russian and in English. An extensive list of
Eurasia-based NGOs can be found here.

Counterpart Creative Center Charity Fund (CCC) offers an extensive
free database of NGOs in Ukraine for authorized users. This website is
in Russian and in English.

The Centers for Pluralism NGO-Links website is in Russian and in
English, and provides a large collection of links to NGOs in the CIS,
as well as a direct link to civnet, where an online newsletter and
journal can be found.
