ICVA's CIS Conference Report
 
Dear ICVA Friend,

We are pleased to let you know that a report produced by ICVA on the
CIS Conference meetings that took place in Geneva in June is now
available on the ICVA web site <http://www.icva.ch> on the What�s Hot!
page.

While ICVA has not played an active role in the CIS Conference process
to date, several NGOs suggested that there is a role for ICVA to play
in the follow-up to the CIS Conference process, which is to end next
June.

The report focuses on several themes, how NGOs are contributing to a
solution, and how the CIS Conference has supported them.

ICVA is currently considering how it could best assist NGOs in the CIS
given its recent restructuring and reaffirmed mandate, which focuses
on adding value to the work of its members. One small contribution
could be to help the working groups report on their progress to a
wider audience through the use of a web site parallel to the ICVA
site. Such a web site would allow CIS NGOs to take advantage of the
interactive elements currently available on the ICVA site. ICVA could
also play a role in ensuring that international organisations, such as
UNHCR, IOM, and the OSCE remain linked to the CIS process.

ICVA remains, as always, open to suggestions as to how it might best
be able to contribute to the work of NGOs in the CIS.
