As the focus of your organization and web site is relevant to our
relief efforts and annual conference, we would greatly appreciate your
posting the enclosed notices on
(1) the Balkan Recovery Project: Catastrophic Trauma Recovery
Training (CTR), and
(2) the 8th ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON CONFLICT RESOLUTION
(ICR) held May 11-21, 2000 in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Common Bond Institute (CBI), HARMONY Institute, and the Association
for Humanistic Psychology are grassroots nonprofit NGOs that operate a
major annual international peace conference in addition to practical
cross-cultural trainings in conflict resolution/transformation at
various locations in the world. WE APPRECIATE YOUR SHARING THIS

The Annual ICR Conference has been supported by President Clinton,
President Yeltsin, St. Petersburg Governor Jakovlev, and is endorsed
by over 55 organizations internationally. Participants have come from
over 50 countries and all continents, providing excellent
opportunities for important networking contacts with representatives
of many organizations and societies.
The Balkan Recovery Project is endorsed and supported by the major NGO
coordinating agencies and local governments in the Balkans, and
currently partners with NGO's in Albania and Croatia.

~ MAKING A DIFFERENCE in KOSOVA and the BALKANS ~
Balkan Recovery Project
CATASTROPHIC TRAUMA RECOVERY TRAINING (CTR)
A new and urgent Humanitarian Relief Effort providing on-site training
in catastrophic trauma recovery skills to local relief workers
assisting refugees and victims of violence in the Balkans.
Endorsed & supported by NGO & government organizations throughout the
Balkans
Sponsored by: Common Bond Institute (CBI)
In cooperation with: Association for Humanistic Psychology (AHP)
The Balkan Recovery Project offers a unique integrated, intensive
Catastrophic Trauma Recovery (CTR) training model incorporating a
number of key components designed to treat large traumatized
populations, conducted on site in the Balkans by teams of specially
trained mental health professionals. This is a "training of trainers"
intended to create an extensive pool of local health professionals and
relief workers equipped with practical crisis intervention and trauma
resolution skills to
(1) directly assist the large portion of the population in the region
suffering from severe psychological trauma, and
(2) train others in these skills.
Continued training will occur with support from CBI, AHP, and other
professional organizations cooperating on this project. It is expected
the CTR Training/Treatment model will serve as a template for treating
populations in other parts of the world.
While the project most immediately addresses assistance to victims
from Kosova and Albania, it is intended for health professionals and
relief workers assisting victims throughout the Balkans, including
Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia, Bosnia / Herzegovina, Croatia, and
Slovenia. Assistance is also available to members of peacekeeping
forces and relief agencies struggling with the stress of dealing with
disaster sites. An added benefit is the invaluable investment in the
future health services of the region.
The latest United Nations needs assessment on the Balkans, regional
NGO coordinating agencies, and local government representatives
confirm that, although many efforts are underway to address obvious
physical needs of refugees, there is a dire lack of services
addressing the effects of deep emotional trauma on tens of thousands
of individuals, their families, and their communities. The pervasive
presence of such a large segment of traumatized members at all levels
of these societies poses perhaps the most formidable barrier to peace.
It is imperative to not only the present but to the future that
victims on all sides are assisted in healing and recovering from their
tragic experiences
This crucial humanitarian relief project is operated by nonprofit
organizations and supported by contributions. Those wishing to make

A multi-disciplinary/multi-cultural conference that has been supported

practicing personal and professional skills in conflict resolution.
This joint US/Russian sponsored event FOCUSES ON all aspects of
conflict resolution and transformation, from the intrapersonal - to
the interpersonal - to relationships between groups, organizations,
cultures, and societies - and ultimately between us and other species.
PRESENTATIONS explore conflict resolution within diverse contexts,
including:
arts/creativity,
cross-cultural, ecology, economics/business, education, gender,
global/regional conflict, health/healing arts, human rights,
organizational/community, psychotherapy, and transpersonal/spiritual.
Many opportunities are offered for hands-on practical skills training,
sharing of programs and curriculums, intensive dialogues on theory and
perceptions of conflict and resolution, networking and collaboration,
and a powerful intentional community experience. Participants have
come from over 50 countries and all continents, providing excellent
opportunities for important networking contacts with representatives
of many organizations and societies. The program attracts individuals
in key positions in their respective societies who can model and teach
these skills to many others.
6 DAYS of all-day institutes, workshops, roundtables, and community
meetings.
55 day-program sessions, and a full slate of evening activities and
social/cultural events.
4 DAYS of pre- and post-conference cultural events, tours, and
professional visits and meetings, in St. Petersburg.
