Questions from Moravian-Silesian activist
As I am involved in an anti-conscription movement for total abolition
of compulsory military service in the Czech Republic, I am also
interested in situation of conscription and conscientious objection at
international level.
I have got some documents on the situation of military service in
Middle and East European and ex-Soviet countries, mostly made by
Amnesty International, but insufficient information about autonomous
republics and regions, almost independent and de facto independent
states.
For instance, I would like to get to know about the conscription
situation in Montenegro, is there compulsory military service? I am
especially interested in the situation in the former USSR. I suppose
that Chechnya and Abkhazia have their own armed forces, but there is
no information on military service in Ingushetia, Kalmykia, Tatarstan,
Tuva or Crimea.
Does anyone have more information?
In Moravia-Silesia (East part of the Czech Republic) there is
experience: Moravian and Silesian citizens are conscripted for the
Czech Army which can be considered an occupation force from
Moravian-Silesian point of view. This situation is thus objectionable.
It is really highly undesirable when members of a nation have the duty
to serve in armed forces of the state that occupies them. I am keen to
take part in campaigns against this sort of forcible recruitment.
------
I would like to get to know something about the present-day attitude
of Georgia to UNPO - Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization.
Although it was a former member, it is not among those four supporting
members: Estonia, Latvia, Armenia and Palau. Has it seceded or been
excluded because of its conflict with (UNPO member) Abkhazia?
I am seeking any information about the Georgian Parliament in Exile.
As I know, it took part in some UNPO-Tartu events in the past, didn't
it? Does the Exile Parliament still exist? I would like to find out
anything more about it, including its contact address (if it exists).
