Please find attached the programme of a Summer School
The Summer School titled Citizenship and Identities in a Multilevel
European Space organised by the "Jean Monnet" European Centre of the
University of Trento, Italy, in cooperation with the University of
Innsbruck, Austria will last two weeks, from the 10th to the 22nd of
September. The courses will be held in two pleasant residential
complexes in the outskirts of Trento and Innsbruck.
Objectives
The objective of the Summer School is to explore and analyse questions
and issues relating to the construction of a European identity and the
emergence of new citizenship rights. The Summer School will take a
multidisciplinary approach and address a broad range of issues, which
include:
� The development of a common European identity.
� European rights and the processes of EU constitutionalisation.
� Regionalism and national/sub-national identities.
� The creation of a European civil society.
� The issue of "governance" in the contest of the forthcoming White
Paper on governance.
� Political representation and political party organisation.
� Enlargement and the borders of the Union.
� Migration and the Schengen Agreement.
Venue and Duration
The Summer School will last two weeks and will be based on an
intensive residential programme. The school will consist of 10
sessions with two different lectures daily, followed by students'
presentations and a general discussion.
The first week (10-15 September) of courses will take place in Trento,
at Centro Attivit� Formative of Candriai, Monte Bondone, Italy.
The second week (17-22 September) will take place in Innsbruck, at the
Tiroler Bildungsinstitut of Grillhof, Austria.
Admission Procedures
The Summer School will target final year undergraduate students, MA
and PhD students and young researchers. Candidates must have a strong
interest and some background in the topics of the School and be fluent
in oral and written English, which is the working language.
In addition to students, the School is also open to the private and
pubblic sector employees interested in European matters.
The number of participants is limited to 30.
All participants will receive a Certificate which may be used to
aquire academic credits in agreement with home institutions.
The organisation declines any responsibility in case of illness or
accidents.
The deadline for applications is 28 July (date of post-mark).

Application forms should contain the following information:
a) Personal data: name, surname, gender, nationality, date and place
of birth.
b) Contact numbers: telephone, fax, e-mail.
c) Brief curriculum vitae: academic qualifications, current
professional or academic position.
d) Name, title, address, contact numbers and e-mail address of at
least one referee who is familiar with the candidate's academic or
professional position.

A Committee of professors of Trento and Innsbruck Universities will
select the candidates on the basis of CVs. Applicants will be notified
of the selection results by 4 August 2001 by e-mail or ordinary
mail/fax. The list of admitted candidates will be also posted on-line

Fees
Summer School fees are � 500 (VAT included) comprising tuition, meals
and accomodation, but not travel expenses. The Selection Committee
will avail itself of the right to grant scholarships to
Central-Eastern European participants who have requested it. In this
case, fees are � 250.
The admitted candidates will be notified by 15 August. The first
installment (� 250 and � 125 for scholarship-holders) must be payed by
1 September. The second installment is due by 7 September. Both
payments have to be made to Trento University's bank account at:
