Information service of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People informs:

17th of May the meeting of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People was
held. The Chairman of Mejlis M.Dzhemilev, 1st deputy R.Chubarov
informed about results of the meeting with the President of Ukraine
L.Kuchma. The chairman of the Parliament of Ukraine A.Tkachenko,
chairman of the Parliament of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea
L.Grach, chairman of the Council of Ministers S.Kunitsin, secretary of
the Council of National Security and Defense of Ukraine Gorbulin,
vice-premier of the Minister of Ukraine V.Smoliy, representatives of
the President Administration took part in the meeting. The Mejlis of
the Crimean Tatar People took into consideration the information that
President of Ukraine signed the Decree on Establishment of the Council
of the Representatives of the Crimean Tatar People by President of
Ukraine as consultative body. In Council entered 33 members of Mejlis,
the Chairman of the Council M.Dzhemilev was appointed. It was informed
that the Chairman of Parliament of Ukraine A.Tkachenko assured of
parliamentary hearing the Draft Law "On Status of the Crimean Tatar
People" at the meeting.

The Head of RUCH, chairman of committee on human rights, national
minorities and interethnic relations of the Parliament of Ukraine
G.Udovenko, Deputies of the Parliament of Ukraine, members of RUCH
V.Koval, Ya.Fedorin, G.Manchulenko took part in the meeting.

The Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People took a decision temporarily to
stop the mass protest actions, but at the same time accordingly to
before accepted decision, after meeting of 18th of May, to pitch a
tent town on the square in Simferopol. This action directs against
Crimean authorities and requiring the solution of the issues
concerning of their competence. In particular, to change the skilled
policy and bring the representatives of the Crimean Tatars according
to their numbers into all bodies of the government of peninsula.

The Decree of the President of Ukraine

On the Council of the Representatives of the Crimean Tatar People

In order to solve the political-legal, social-economical, cultural and
other issues, connected with adaptation and integration of the Crimean
Tatar People into Ukrainian community, the uncertainty of the legal
status of Mejlis, elected by Kurultay (National Assembly) of the
Crimean Tatar People, according to item 28, article 106 of the
Constitution of Ukraine decide:

1. To establish the Council of the Representatives of the Crimean
Tatar People by President of Ukraine as consultative body.

2. To appoint M.Dzhemilev as the Head of the Council of the
Representatives. To approve the members of the Council of the
Representatives of the Crimean Tatar People (enclosed)

3. To submit for consideration for month by the Head of the Council
M.Dzhemilev the Draft on Regulations of the Council of the
Representatives of the Crimean Tatar People.
