THE POWER TO CHANGE
Action and awareness-raising against racism and discrimination in
Europe
UNITED conference June 8-12, 2001
Göteborg, Sweden
 
Dear friends,
 
This is a reminder about the upcoming UNITED conference. If you want
to participate, read on.
 
The aim of this conference is to work together to change our world,
through developing common aciton and awareness-raising. We want to
work towards a more inclusive society, in which there is not place for
racism and intolerance.
 
Main themes:
A) Fighting discrimination against minorities: multiple
discrimination, Roma issues, women of minorities, empowerment, EU
directives against discrimination, positive action
B) Fighting extreme-right ideologies: Holocaust denial, isolation of
the extreme-right, "cordon sanitaire", defend the rights of
anti-fascists
C) Colonialism, slavery and recompensation - a thing of the past?:
World Conference Against Racism, awareness-raising about the colonial
past of European states, support for victims of colonialism and
slavery...
D) Asylum and migration politics: Roma, sans-papiers, defend the human
rights defenders, criminalisation of helping 'illegals', newcomers in
Europe
E) Education against prejudice: civic education, critical consumers of
the news, education in schools, education outside of schools,
non-racist education material
 
Does this interest you? Do you want to work within one working group
to look at the experience of participants in their respective
countries, ways of taking action against racism, actual political
developments and practical planning of follow-up action. During the
last part of the conferecne we will try to develop concrete ideas for
campaigning, awareness-raising and action.
 
The conference takes place just before an EU Summit and an
alternative/NGO event, which will take place from 13 June until 16
June in Göteborg.

and submit it by email, mail or fax as soon as possible! All
nominations that arrive before 5 May have a higher chance of
acceptance.
