Executive Summary:
Roma community in Lithuania is one among largest but ignored ethnic
group of the country. The community is being faced by various
discriminations that caused to establish grass routed poverty,
illiteracy, non hygienic life, high rate of crime, physical &
psychological decease and unawareness about basic rights. The Roma
community is integral part of Lithuanian society possessed citizenship
and constitutional guarantees but due to undesired conditions of life,
the community is not capable to comply with the requirement of modern
life.
"Cigonu Lauzas" The Association of Gipsies of Lithuania is a sole
representative of community that is actively advocating it's case in
public since 1997. This noble association founds that until a
comprehensive data of Roma community shall not be organized, a target
oriented community development plan can't be established. Community
largely suffering with social discriminations that caused to poverty,
various economic social, political problems. Roma community comprises
more than 5000 citizens of Lithuania Republic. It reside mainly in
Vilnius than Kaunas, Panaviziu, Kalipid and almost every largest town
of Republic of Lithuania. Because it scattered too largely, it caused
negative to a comprehensive development program.
Project Roma Data Base Center Lithuania is being dedicated not only to
compile a comprehensive data but also diagnosing areas of immediate
concern, developing feasibility short and long term community
development projects and providing a consultancy to the national and
international development agencies that may have possessed an
intention of Roma's community development.
With this letter we are seeking financial, documentary and metrical
support of various international agencies and especially which are
actively involve in Roma's advocacy. Please don't hesitate to contact
us if you are able to contribute this suffering community.
We are intended to health, rehabilitation, awareness of law and civil
society, education, poverty elimination, career training, income
generating small and medium enterprises, women, youth and children
development, adult education, quality life.
