GREENS ATTEMPT TO AID ROMA
Frankfurt a.M. / GERMANY ( RNN Correspondent ) April the 15th, 1999
The Green Party in Frankfurt's city council wants to try once more to
have a halting site opened in the east of the city; this site would be
of most benefit to Roma who are on the move. As a gesture of goodwill,
the Public office that owns the site has announced that the will rent
it for a mere DM1,000 a year though the costs of installing amenities
will reach about DM80,000. A speaker for the Greens said that
Christian Democrats' and Socialists' claims that the town couldn't
afford such a site were no longer tenable after both parties agreed to
allocate DM 71 million extra to the budget of the city's office of
Public works.
RNN Exclusive/Situations in Balkan-Kosovo-Macedonia after 28 days war!
Kumanovo / MACEDONIA ( RNN Correspondent ) April the 21st, 1999
Situation on Balkan -Kosovo-Yugoslavia
The war is going on, the bombings are continuing the number of victims
is increasing. The telephone contacts from Macedonia with Yugoslavia
are more difficult. One family from Kumanovo Idic have visited their
relatives in Vranje and Bujanovac and when they returned they told us
that the life is going on there, they have enough food to eat, but
they are deranged from the sleepless nights and fear of the bombs. But
they are unique in one thing that the attacks must stop immediately.
The cities in Kosovo are in ruins, people in Belgrade are on the
streets.
Situation in Macedonia
The president of the state, the GOV. and the members of the Macedonian
parliament keep the way of our own national interests, instead of the
much more bigger number of refugees entering Macedonia every day. If
the war continues Macedonia will face very critical situations, the
trade is reduced, the economic power is getting weaker. Now, all
citizens of Macedonia need humanitarian help not only the refugees
from Kosovo. Every day from 500 to 1000 refugees leave Macedonia to
other European countries but twice bigger number of refugees are
coming. The refugees situated in the camps are better insured with
food and medicines are better insured with food and medicines than the
refugees throughout the families who are facing very difficult
problems. The number of the Roma refugees from Serbia is increasing.
The Roma refugees from the contacts made most of them want to leave
Macedonia, to some other European countries. The receivers of refugee
to ask for help, too, to, so they could take the crisis milder. The
family Ramadanovski is without a space for the refugees, they have
only one room for people. Up to now we haven't received any complaint
about some contagious diseases among Roma refugees.
The organization Roma Community Center"DROM"Kumanovo for this critical
period in Macedonia is involved actively in the care for refugees
together with the other Roma organizations. Up to this moment our
organization provided two humanitarian grants for 100 refugees or 25
families from Kosovo and Serbia. The activity of the organization is
having results. The results are needed but they will come to a hurdle
because one part of the organization's budget is totally spent for the
refugees. Photographs of the refugees are payed, telephone calls with
their families outside the country, medical needs, transport of the
humanitarian help. Somebody might ask why we did all of it? The
response is very simple. The help was indispensably needed. We help
was indispensably needed. We had more cases of our own financing for
milk, sugar and bread for the refugees. But we like to mention that
Roma People from Kumanovo have urgent need for help. We helped to some
of them but to some People we couldn't.
One lucky circumstance is that the weather fine and they don't need
heating. The family Krasnici from Decani-Kosovo have new member of the
family, the child is healthy born in home conditions, we managed for
medical care. The name of the child is Serdjan. This is the only
cheerful information.
We would like to announce thank fullness to all that are giving help
for support of our informing or direct help money. Up to now received
money from Australian Roma organization. These means will be used for
help of three families with small children. We will inform you about
this.
Beside the great worrying, and mental derange about the situation
here, I am pleased to say that the Roma and non-Roma understand the
problem written in my information.
God bless us all.
