Allegations about an anti-Armenian mood in the Russian Federation's
Krasnodar Territory are an absolute provocation, Cossack Lt-Gen Gamlet
Bagdasaryan, deputy chairman of the Armenian community Sevan of the
town of Sochi, told journalists in Yerevan today.
He said that there were occasional problems between Armenians and the
population of Krasnodar Territory, but that they were quickly solved.
The lieutenant-general even cited an example of a recent serious
incident between Armenians and Cossacks of Kropotkin, which turned
into a scuffle. Still, he thinks that it is exaggerated to talk about
tension. "The Armenians of Krasnodar Territory live very well,"
Bagdasaryan said.
In the meantime, the legislative assembly of Krasnodar Territory
adopted a law "On residence in Krasnodar Territory" in its first
reading. According to this law, every citizen who is in Kuban
[Krasnodar] for more than 10 days, should register and pay duty. The
right to buy property in the territory by people without permanent
residence is restricted.
