News paper article about Roma in Macedonia
Dear all,
I am very pleased to share my happiness that finally the media in
Macedonia provided information that Roma in Macedonia are
discriminated. On Saturday, 7th of April the major (most read) daily
news paper DNEVNIK published an article with the title ROMA IN
MACEDONIA ARE DISCRIMINATED. The article is on the second page among
the other articles which are talking about the current situation in
the Macedonian Government, Albanian political parties, Turks and
dialog with the Macedonian Government etc.
The article is saying:
One of the major problem where Roma in Macedonia are facing is the
police illtreatment. discrimination in the procedure when they look
for a job, education and in front of the institution of Justice was
stated at the round table about International Romani Day 8 of April by
Mr. Martin Demirovski - representative of the European Roma Rights
Center. Because of that reasons The ERRC will be more engaged in the
process for better integration of Roma in the Macedonian society. Two
years ago, two Roma cases were sent to the European Court of Human
Rights in Strasbourg. The opinion of the Macedonian police was that
the two cases are not examples of violation of Human Rights. But the
experts from ERRC analyzed the situation/cases and concluded that
those are real examples of violation of human rights said Demirovski.
Yesterday, the president of the Assembly of Republic of Macedonia Mr.
Stojan Andov, has met with a delegation from the Republic organization
protection of Roma rights. The delegation stated that they will
initiate projects for forcing the integration process of Roma in the
society.
That is the article.
I have something to note where the article is talking about the two
Roma cases sent to Strasbourg. At the round table Mr. Demirovski
stated that the cases were done in 1997 and they passed the whole
procedure in Macedonian bodies of Justice and because of the results
the ERRC send those cases to Strasbourg. Also Mr. Demirovski did not
say that the police did not recognize the cases as a violation of
human rights, Mr. Demirovski said the Macedonian bodies of Justice did
not recognize that. Anyway, I think that the journalist is not right
informed about the regulation and the language with whom the Human
Rights activists are talking.
VERY IMPORTANT Please, if you have some comments to this article or
you are not agree feel free to send and address you comments to Martin
Demirovski.
sincerely,
Martin Demirovski
