Job Announcement
Job Title: Program Director, Roma School Tolerance Program
Location: Budapest, Hungary
Start Date: April 1, 2001
Begun in 1997, the Roma School Tolerance Program (RSTP) facilitates
the presentation of lessons on Roma history, language, and culture by
Roma college students and activists in Hungarian elementary schools.
The Program Director will be selected based on his/her ability to
fulfill the following responsibilities:
1. Program oversight. The director will ensure that all RSTP staff are
performing their duties effectively and that the RSTP is fulfilling
its program vision and achieving its potential. This oversight
function will include observation of the work of RSTP staff in
schools.
2. Reporting and evaluation. The director will submit an activity
report and a separate financial report to the American Friends Service
Committee's Europe Program every month. The reports will include
assessments of staff performance, program results during the month,
and expected results and activities for the following month. The
reporting function will also entail outreach work in the form of
articles, public speaking, conference attendance, and
contact-building.
3. Visions and planning. The director will produce written work plans
and explore new ideas for program work through a process of creative
thinking, consultation with other organizations, and feedback from the
staff. The director, in co-operation with other AFSC staff, will also
participate in drafting funding proposals for the program.
4. Administration. The director will employ professional office
management practices - including effective record-keeping and file
management, use and staffing of office phone, fax, and e-mail
resources, activity planning (including a printed monthly calendar of
RSTP work and events), and facilities management (bills, rent,
equipment upkeep, etc.).
