Education for a Civic Society in Latvia
Dear colleagues,
A new public organisation has been established in the area of civic
eduaction in Latvia. We are looking for partners interested in
developing educational projects together with us in Latvia:
Organisation "Education for a Civic Society"
IPSA (the Latvian abbreviation) - is a public organisation established
by 18 persons on 14 December 1998 and registered under Latvian law on
2 February 1999.
The Latvians who founded IPSA are the acting NGO trainers conducting
training seminars in NGO capacity building all over Latvia,
researchers within the field of civic society, people who work also as
business consultants for small and medium enterprises.
The mission of the organisation includes support to development of
civic society in Latvia through education to different actors - both
NGOs, individuals, youth, teachers, public servants, political
parties, local governments.
Strategically, the organisation's first objective for 1999 is to
provide the necessary conditions for mutual sharing of experience,
in-organisation training for the members. This is the most acute need
for the members at the moment. However, the strategy will be broader
than this. One of the priorities for 1999 is to secure the operation
sustainability of the organisation. Another priority is self-promotion
and getting invilved in local and international networks.
Currently, IPSA is designing a training programme for for public
servants and NGOs involved in the area of human rights/rights of the
child.
A separate project, for 1999, that is a part of the organisation's
raison-d'etre will be a national conference of the "civic society
educationalists" and producing of a data base of those in Latvia.
IPSA is seeking contacts abroad. We have even one foreign member -
Mette Bram from Denmark.
