Having been the person who started the debate over item inclusion by
forwarding the text of a commentary by the Macedonian paper Dnevnik,
as translated by the Macedonian Information Centre (MIC) about the
Greek Helsinki Committee report on rights of Bulgarians in Macedonia
I would like to make a few comments.
I forwarded the text not because I necessarily believed the Dnevnik
commentary was justified. I do not know enough about the situation
in Macedonia to determine this. However, I felt that if the Greek
Helsinki Committee report had provoked such a strong reaction, it
might be useful for subscribers to know that certain portions of
society in Macedonia found the Greek report objectionable.
I am aware that reproducing such forceful views can cause more
sound and fury than light on such situations. I was happy to leave
the decision as to whether to retransmit the Dnevnik commentary to
the Moderator. I hope the Moderator will exercise due sensitivity in
all cases as to what is worth sending out and what is better omitted.
I agree with the various guidelines proposed by other contributors.
I would not have a problem if the Moderator declines to retransmit
any contribution I might submit if the contribution does not help
enlighten our community of those interested in and concerned for
minority communities. So far I have found the coverage fascinating
and enlightening.
