MIC commentary on the report about Bulgarians in Macedonia
(From the moderator: Frankly, I was hesitating if I should forward the
following posting to the list - sorry, Felix... IMHO, it goes somewhat
beyond acceptable borders of tolerance and correctness. This is a
problem similar to another one - should I put links to overtly
nationalistic, and even extreme nationalistic web sites from the
MINELRES site? And should I warn visitors about the content of these
sites? I haven't come to any definite conclusion so far... Anyway, I
believe that's life, we should be aware of the situation as it is, and
everybody has the right to set his/her own criteria of right and wrong...

MACEDONIAN PRESS REVIEW
DNEVNIK: SAN-STEFAN DEFENSE OF RIGHTS?
(Commentary of the Greek Helsinki Committee for rights of Bulgarians
in Macedonia).
The Greek Helsinki Committee fights for the rights of the Bulgarians in
Macedonia!? If this fact was not confirmed, we would have cracked up
laughing at this clumsy joke! Can you imagine that the public in the
state, which through a genocide annihilates the Macedonians in Aegean
Macedonia, takes care about the alleged minority in Macedonia same
as Greece - the only other country on the Balkans which implements all
the methods towards the Macedonians in Perinean Macedonia! But this
is not a joke.
The non-government organization with a high fame in the widest
context of the European civil mechanisms that emerged, inspired of
the European Conference for Security and Cooperation held in
Helsinki decided to, it knows with what was the need and arguments
for this, to protect the Bulgarians in Macedonia. However, as much
as it could have been seen from the report of the Greek Helsinki
Committee, all of this effort was made in order to protect, imagine,
even 4 (four) Bulgarians in Macedonia and one entire (1) organization!
Let us not get confused, even if it is a question of one citizen whom
the state with its power inflicted arbitrarily injustice to, or, heaven
forbid, violence, it is necessary now for the entire public, both the
domestic and the international, to stand up.
Nevertheless, when all of this receives the contours of the
well-known propaganda in the seat of which is Macedonia, the entire
Balkan public should bristle and to alarm with the head of the
Helsinki Committee. It must not allow for its activities to serve
somebody to renew the propaganda wars about whom Macedonia
belongs to. Because this is a renewal that leads not only
Macedonia, but also Europe, into misery. And this, you would
agree, will annul in the most miraculous way the most fundamental
rights of all the people from this and the European region - the right
of happiness, health and life.
Exactly due to this reason, the Helsinki Committee for Human
Rights of Greece should understand our message as a request to
stand up and protect all of those who would not like a crisis around
Macedonia, who would like integration into Europe through the
Helsinki principles. Finally, according to our humble opinion, the
way for our Greek Helsinki neighbors is to continue with all the
energy to protect the rights of the thousands of Macedonians in
Greece, to guard over the rights of the thousands of Turks, Albanians
and others who could still not talk freely in their own language and
to cherish their culture. As far as we can understand, everything
else would mean leaving space for someone and their efforts to be
placed in the service of San Stefano and the great state ambitions
from the past, which do not lead to any future whatsoever.
