DIRECT DEMOCRACY IN EASTERN EUROPE

The Institute for Legal Studies of the Hungarian Academy of Science,
the Central European University (CEU), Budapest and the Research and
Documentation Centre on Direct Democracy (C2D), University of Geneva
are jointly organizing a conference on: "Direct Democracy: The Eastern
and Central European Experience" which will be held in Budapest on the
25th and 26th February 2000. The meeting will focus on examining:
* the theoretical aspects of direct democracy;
* the existing institutions and experiences lived in different
Eastern and Central Europe; and
* regional and local direct democracy.
The conference is being sponsored by the Swiss Embassy in Budapest,
