Kouchner confesses failure of UN policy in Kosovo
Pristina / KOSOVO ( RNN Correspondent ) January the 10th, 2000
Due to the continuing violence in Kosovo the UN-mission is going to
change its policy. Six months after the marching in of the Kfor, the
UN-mission only aims at the (peaceful) coexistence of the ethnic
groups and no longer at building up a multi-ethnic society.
Kouchner, chairman of the UN-mission, presented an agenda of the new
UN policy. He announced that also the justice system would be changed
by compensating some Serbian laws by own laws. He said "unfortunately
the building-up of a multi-ethnic society is impossible at present, so
we will have to wait for a tomorrow".

Attachment of the commemorative plaque to the health center

The commemorative plaque which reminds of the Roma persecution by the
NS regime will finally be attached to the health center in Braubach
Street. The plaque had been ordered by the Roma Union and has been the
subject of a long lasting dispute.
Now the members of the institute of the town history also agreed to
the text on the plaque, which mentioned the racial scientists Robert
Ritter and Eva Justin. These two persons started working with the
health center "only after their deeds, so that the commemorative
plaque would have been attached to a non-authentic place". However,
this objection was dropped now to make an end to the dispute about the
memory of the persecuted Sinti and Roma.
