The Union of Councils for Soviet Jews (UCSJ) today launches its new and
expanded website, http://www.fsumonitor.com. This site will serve as the
central source for news related to Jews and human rights in the 15 countries
of the former Soviet Union (FSU), updated daily with reports from UCSJ's
seven bureaus and monitors throughout the region, and selections from other
news sources. Other new features include:
Action Alerts from UCSJ's latest campaigns for prisoners and against
antisemitism, extreme nationalism, and other anti-democratic practices in
the FSU;
A "bulletin board," where visitors to the site can discuss vital current
issues in an open forum;
A link to UCSJ's Yad L'Yad (Hebrew for "Hand to Hand") Partnership
Assistance Program, through which Jewish communities in the FSU are paired
with synagogues, schools, and organizations in America and are provided
vital humanitarian, cultural, moral and financial.
UCSJ President Yosef I. Abramowitz declared that FSUMonitor.com will be "the
primary news source for what is happening to Jews and human rights in the
FSU. Our extensive network of bureaus and monitors, which extends from the
Baltics through Russia and Ukraine to Central Asia, will give people the
news and analysis that most other Western media seldom cover. But beyond
that, FSUMonitor.com will take the next step by directing interested people
to action and advocacy for those who suffer from persecution or are trying
to establish religious liberty, democracy, and pluralism in the FSU."
